Happiness, 2020

Happiness is a reflection on the ways in which simple symbols, like a curved line, can evoke an emotional response. It asks: why do we want to control happiness?

Happiness uses an antique railroad flashlight for an enclosure, and a miniature OLED screen for display. The bakelite HAPPINESS label evokes the laboratory equipment I used in my graduate studies. The music for this video is the demo song from the Casio VL-1 handheld synthesizer that I owned as a kid.
